The Kapuso Networks original plan was to put Captain Barbell and Darna together in one series and the working title was "Captain Barbell Meets Darna", but they could'nt find another actress to portray Darna, Marian Rivera was doing Dyesebel that time so she was'nt available, so GMA just shelved the project but now everythings ready for the superhero's comeback.
When Captain Barbell first aired on primetime TV, it was indeed a ratings juggernaut. It's pilot episode got a rating of 37.5% and even hit the 40% mark and ended with a 35.4% ratings in Mega Manila. Of course not all people are happy for Captain Barbell's return, you might wanna ask "na naman? hindi ba nagsasawa ang GMA?" or "wala ng maisip na iba ang GMA" and you might also percieve that it might do better in the ratings if the title role will be portrayed by another talent just like in Darna, Angel Locsin was replaced by Marian Rivera. But it's a differrent story, Angel was replaced because she transferred to ABS-CBN unless the network allowed her to do Darna in GMA while having a contract with ABS, that's very imposible. And I think that if Angel chose to stay with GMA she would have been doing Darna today.
While in Richard's case, he stayed with GMA upto this moment, and why would the Kapuso Network find another actor to portray the title role if the Richard who played it first is still around. One thing I want to find out if the Kapuso Network will do a different story for Captain Barbell or will it be the continuation of the first series? And if you have doubt whether it will be a hit once again, why not? Captain Barbell is a Pinoy Culture Icon, it became very popular and comics and was portrayed by different actors in the movies and all of them became top grossers. People would watch it because it's Captain Barbell, the legendary Pinoy Superhero regardless of who wares the costume.
